ARTICLE 6: AIMS & OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of the party shall be the following:
i. To promote and defend the sovereignty, freedoms and the general welfare of the people of The Gambia, with a view to ensuring durable peace, liberty, dignity and equality for all Gambians.
ii. To champion the cause of national development, press freedom, human rights, regional integration, world peace, harmony and international cooperation for the benefit of all people.
iii. To defend the democratic gains of the country and promote the principles of good governance and rule of law in order to advance towards a society in which the government is freely chosen by the people according to the principles of universal suffrage and fair play.
iv. To promote stability, unity, patriotism and national consciousness for rapid and enduring socio-economic development of The Gambia.
v. To actively condemn and resist all forms of injustice, oppression and exploitation of Gambians.
vi. To fight for social justice; promote the rights of children and the physically challenged; advance the cause of women’s empowerment and protect the interests of farmers, workers and youths in The Gambia and to strive for their effective participation in national development and full return for their labour.
vii. To work consciously to promote the development and standardisation of all sectors of government including education, health, economy, security, science, technology, local expertise/businesses, agriculture and protection of the environment.
viii. To sponsor eligible candidates to seek the mandate of the people into all elective offices at all levels of government of The Gambia.
ix. To consciously pursue the implementation of the policies and programmes of the Party, through its members who are appointed or elected into government, legislature and other institutions.
x. To promote and uphold the practice of internal democracy at all levels of the Party’s organisation.
xi. To co-operate with any political party or other organisation whose aims and objectives are in harmony with those of the Party and in conformity with the provisions of the Constitution of The Gambia.
xii. To develop and foster the structures and processes that will lead to the attainment of food self-sufficiency, decent accommodations, standard health care, sustainable energy supply, efficient and affordable telecommunications network and other amenities.
xiii. To do anything supplementary or conducive to the realisation of the aforementioned aims and objectives.
