Information and Technology Developed to a World Class IT system (4/5g) for Effective and Efficient Governance

Vision

A GDC government will parachute The Gambia into the 21st century digital country by ensuring that the foundation of our policies is underpinned by digitalisation of all government administrative services.

Mission

We aim to introduce e-governance to the Gambian government system, including all state apparatuses, parastatals and government enterprises, and eCommerce to the private sector.

Policies

Our policies will focus on six (6) areas which we believe will transform the Gambia into a sustainable digital economy, as well as make it easy for people to access and interact with all government apparatuses and the private sector.

  • Domain Name System (DNS)

The designated manager of the Gambia’s DNS to be returned to the Gambian. An act of parliament will establish an independent Digital Civil Society Organisation (DSCO) to manage the DNS. The DSCO will be aligned with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) as per their requirement for managing a country’s DNS.

  • ICT4Development –Basics – Tech for Core sectors (Agri, Tourism), Mobility to empower the people, people first approach and removal of the digital divide through integration of all systems and boost technical skills and innovation.
  • Digital (Economy) Transformation – Introduce e-Governance, digital citizen services and enhance private business participation. Makes it easy for the citizens, the government, and the private sector to interact.
  • Enabling Instruments and Institutions -Develop our digital infrastructure, policies, and institutional mechanism. Introduce digital payment systems, and a new citizen ID that would be linked to one’s occupation.
  • Regulatory Body – Establish a technology regulatory body that will also be responsible for safeguarding our digital structure, data protection (privacy) and cyber security.
